The Terror of Loss in the Unknown

113-26-06 10:28 EST Gulfonodi, Tiger "Phoenix" Phell's stateroom.

Tiger "Phoenix" Phell sat on the couch, staring at the hangar outside his ship through the faux window of his stateroom, thinking of nothing in particular.

The door behind him opened and admitted a tall blond Amarrian woman. She was wearing a long black coat over brown pants and a brown shirt.

Tiger turned his head as he heard the door open and saw the woman, a smile leaping to his face, "Shana, your back," he stood from the couch and walked around it to Shana, embracing her in a hug, which she returned. "When did you make it back, just now?"

She nodded her head as she held Tiger out in front of her, "Yeah, just got back here, and A'dria tells me that you and that girl, whats her name, Laria." She smiled when Tiger's face lit up at the mention of the name, "You two seem to be really hitting it off."

A smile crept to Tiger's lips at her words, "Yeah, it's only been two weeks since we started being together, and it already feels like I've known her my whole life." He chuckled to himself, "Though I know it would take me a lifetime to really get to know her."

"Well, when do I get to meet her, huh?" She punched Tiger in the shoulder lightly, "Shekear and A'dria already have me...." She stopped mid sentence as they both heard an emergency broadcast over the Phell Clan comms.

"SECURITY EMERGENCY Corvid is down, repeat, Corvid is down SECURITY EMERGENCY""

Tiger started to move towards the door, and Shana grabbing him by his arm, "Tiger, you can't go, it might be a trap, and you know the security procedures, procedures you put in place mind." She held onto him as he struggled to break free, "When a primary asset is attacked, all other primary assets are placed on temporary lock down, unless in pod."

She gestured at the door, "Right now, two squads are coming down that hall, one for me, one for you, to ensure that those orders are carried out." He still tried to break free, but her grip on his arm was tight.

"Shana, I put those orders in place so you, Shekear or A'dria wouldn't try and come rescue me and get hurt, not the other way round." His voice sounded on near panic as he struggled against her hold. "Laria is hurt and I have to get to her, now."

Shana's free hand shot out from waist level as she attempted to hit him in the side, but he saw the blow coming and twisted away just before it struck.

She spun her self to her left, bringing left arm out, a small device springing to her hand from her coat sleeve. As she finished her spin, she brought her arm around, bring the device into contact with Tiger's upper torso, activating it.

Tiger fell to his knees as the taser activated and sent electricity surging through his body, incapacitating him.

"Sorry I had to do that Tiger, but A'dria, Shekear and I knew that you would disobey your own orders and go charging off to rescue any one of us if we got hurt, so we had a plan in case it happened." She stepped around him to open the door and allow the security team that had just arrived into the room.

"Take him to the emergency room and don't let him out until we know whats going on." The squad gave her affirmatives and helped Tiger to his feet and started to lead him out of the room. He didn't try and struggle against their holds on him.

He turned his head to look at Shana as she followed them down the hall. "Shana, at least send a full platoon to her, to make sure she is protected."

Shana smiled at him, "Already done Tiger, they should be arriving there shortly." They had reached the emergency room aboard the ship. Both of them stepped in, with one of the squads entering with them, the other taking up positions to defend the room if necessary.

"Tiger, do not worry. Once the teams give us the all clear, you can head off to help Laria, and I will go back to Nakugard and coordinate the investigation into this from there." She patted his shoulder as she said this.

Tiger just nodded and went to sit in one the chairs in the room, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees, his head down and looking at the floor. Shana went to another of the room's chairs and sat down, watching him, a worried look on her face.

------------------

5 hours later

The Cheetah class covert ops ship sped out of the station's hangar, the clamps holding her in place had barely had time to release before she sped off.

The ship aligned to the first gate leading Tiger on his way to help Laria, a squad of his best marines on board to help with security if needed.

To Tiger, it felt like the longest trip in his life, almost feeling longer the the 5 hour wait he'd had to endure while his security forces determined that it was safe for him to head out.

At last he was on the other side of the last gate, in the system where Laria was now lying in regen chamber, unconscious. The thought ripped him to shreds as he sped the ships towards the station.

19:15 EST Gulfonodi Republic Fleet Testing Facilities, outside Laria Raven's Quarters

The door closed behind Tiger as he stepped into the hallway. He leaned against it and gave a long and heavy sigh, a weight seeming to be settled on his shoulders and crushing him underneath it.

He shook off whatever feeling had overcome him and stood to his full height, walking over to the guard commander of Laria's protection detail. "No one goes into that apartment, except me or her, and if she wants to go somewhere, make sure she has at least one of the squads with her. Is that understood."

The guard saluted, "Yes sir, understood perfectly sir." The guard turned and walked back over to his unit and passed the order on to them.

Tiger nodded to himself, and then proceeded towards a lift that would take him to the hangars where his ship was currently stored, his own protection detail breaking off from Laria's and forming a perimeter around him as he walked the halls of the station.

When his pod was jacked into his ship and he had undocked, he warped to his home station and docked there. Stepping into his hangar, he proceeded to his Typhoon class Battleship, The Raven's Shadow, and stepped onto the lift that would take him on board.

He looked up at the side of his ship, towards the doors to his cargo bays, and watched as a small container was placed in the ship. He looked on that container with malice and hatred, for it bore Laria's attacker, and he wanted answers as to why the woman he loved was attacked.

The lift stopped and he cycled himself through the airlock, and proceeded to the place on his ship where the attacker had been moved to.

When he made to the door that lead into the room with Laria's attacker, he turned to the guard, "Open it, and make sure all recording devices are sending information to our holdings on Nakugard, Shana will need the info to start tracking down the bastards who did this."

The guard nodded and hastened to open the door, not wanting the anger and hate he heard in Tiger's voice transferring to him.

Stepping into the room, Tiger looked at the lone man sitting at the table, his wrists in shield bindings attached directly to the table. "Hello, mister unknown, your going to give me answers, because you don't want to know what happens to you when I don't get what I want."

The mans reply was cut off by the door closing, leaving the guard with no idea what was going on in there.

The dark places

113-06-20 Somewhere in The Bleak Lands region.

A single light on the lone desk was the only illumination in the room. There was a window facing out into space, but it was polarized at the moment, and not allowing any of the starlight that was slamming into the side of the station into the room.

That was the way the rooms one occupant preferred things though. When he was looking over reports he didn't want any distractions, and he often found himself starring into the blackness of space, sometimes losing hours to it.

As he was reading another report, the chime on the door activated, telling him someone wanted access to his office. As one hand reached for the pad that would release the doors lock, the other reached under his desk and rested on the grip of a laser pistol.

The door opened to admit an average height man, looking to be in his mid thirties. He looked to be of Caldari decent, but he also looked like he had some other races features in his facial structure. The rest of him was unremarkable, he looked as if he would blend into a crowd. Anyone looking at him, their eyes would just slide past without a second glance. The only feature that stood out about him, were his eyes. They were dark blue, and held no emotion of any kind.

The man sitting behind the desk smiled, taking his hand off the laser pistol's grip, he stood and offered the hand to the other man. "Glad you could make it Graz, I hope your journey was uneventful."

Graz smiled, but the smile did not reach his emotionless eyes. "Thank you Misk, it was." He sat in the only chair that was in front of the desk, and looked up at Misk as he sat down. "So, whats the job you need me to do?"

Misk reached his hands down to the desk and picked up a data pad and handed it to Graz, "We need you to grab a capsuleer, and bring her back here, alive."

Graz took the pad and opened the files on it. The first thing to pop up was a picture of a young Gallente woman, with a small nose, full lips, black hair, and a smile on her face. A name was up at the top right of the picture, "Laria Raven huh?" He scrolled through the information on her, "Says here she works for Re-Awakened, that the reason you want her nabbed?" He looked up at Misk.

Misk shook his head, "No, that's not the reason. If you read further on, you'll see she's involved with someone, Tiger Phoenix, co-leader of a Brutor clan." he rested his elbows on the desk, "He has caused us some trouble in the past, and we want to repay him for that."

Graz nodded, then went back to reading the information. When he finished, he put the pad into a pocket of his jacket, then stood. "I should have her back here within two weeks, most likely less. I'll contact you when I have her and I'm heading back here." He left through the door.

Misk sat at his desk in silence for a few moments, then he pressed a button on his desk. A small holo screen popped up above the desk, showing a older man dressed in golden robes. Misk bowed his head low before speaking, "My lord, the bounty hunter is on his way to retrieve the package, he will inform me when he has it and is on his way back here. I'll relay that to when he does my lord."

The man on the screen just nodded, then broke the connection.

New Beginings, Old Friends

113-06-14, Nakugard VI, Phell Clan holdings, Clan Council Chambers

Light streamed into a large room from skylights in the high ceiling. Seated around the large circular room in high-back chairs, was the council of Clan Phell. The chairs surrounded an open flat space in the floor that allowed someone to speak to the entire room and be seen by all. A large set of metal doors on the only flat wall in the room allow access. Across from the doors sat Tiger Phoenix, with Shekear Mervess siting on his left.

Leaning against the arm of his high-backed chair, Tiger was in deep thought.

Two nights in a row, he thought to himself, two nights in a row and I've woken up beside her.

Each time I wake up in the morning, I'm afraid that it will be a dream. His thoughts strayed even further from the talk going on around him.

Shekear leaned over to Tiger and sayed quietly "You might want to pay attention Tiger, this topic could be important to the Clan."

Tiger jerked at the sound of her voice. Turning his head to look at her, he nodded distractedly.

Shekear stared at him worriedly "Are you ok there?" she looked around to make sure no one had noticed her speaking.

"I haven't seen you this distracted before, has something happened?"

Shaking his head "No, nothing happened, just got somethings on my mind." Bringing up a connection to one of the camera drones recording the council session through his internal neo-com, he viewed the last few moments to get himself caught up with the discussion.

Shekear nodded and went back to listening to the councilman who had the floor outline future trade agreements with other Clan's in and around the system.

As he was viewing the recording, his mind wandered again. She said it, a phrase I haven't heard from a women that wasn't family for over 3 years.

He brought himself back to the present with a shake of his head as the recording ended. He tried not to think of anything accept what was going on with the council until the proceedings were over a few hour later.

When the meeting was over, Tiger remained seated in his chair and went back to thinking about her.

Shekear was talking to one of the Council members as she left the room. Before reaching the doors, she looked back to were Tiger was sitting and paused, a frown on her face.

"Ma'sa, go on ahead, I'll catch up with you later today to discuss the trade details." The man nodded and continued walking out through the doors as Shekear turned around and walked over to Tiger.

"Tiger, whats up, why are you so distracted?" She sat down in the chair next to him, "Whats wrong?" she asked with concern tinting her voice.

He moved his eyes to look at her, and a slight smile touched his lips.

"Nothing is wrong Shekear," he chuckled softly "In fact a lot of things are right in the universe right now."

She tilted her head to the side, a confused look on her face "Then why have you been acting so down today?"

"I've not been acting down" he shifted in his chair and sat up straight, towering over Shekear with his full height, "just thinking real hard about stuff."

"Well?" she asks impatiently.

"I think, no, I know I've found someone. She is fun, and we make each-other laugh, and last night she..." he paused and looked up at the camera drones that were still floating around the council chambers.

With a quick thought he sent them all to their storage alcoves, erasing the last few minutes.

"Last night she said that she was falling in love with me," he shifted his eyes to look at Shekear, "and then she left the channel we were talking in."

Shekear sat back in her chair, a thoughtful expression on her face.

"Do you feel the same about her?"

He looked at nothing for a few moments before replying, "I talked to one of my friends in the corp almost directly afterwards and asked his advice."

"And?" she asked impatiently.

He turned his head back to look at her, "During our talk, I realized, yes, I do feel the same, have been feeling the same for a time now."

He sighed and pushed himself out his chair, "And when I see her next I'll tell her so." He turned and looked down at Shekear.

"Also, I'm assigning a platoon of the marines to guard her, if you see Shanaa before I do, tell her." He started walking towards the door, expecting her to follow.

She sat in her seat for a moment longer, then got up and followed Tiger to the door.

"So, who is she then?" She smiled at Tiger,"I want to meet this women who seems to have taken my co-leaders heart. I'm quite sure your cousins will as well."

"Oh, you all will meet her eventually, but for now," they had reached the doors and Tiger let Shekear walk through before he started closing it, "I think she wouldn't be comfortable meeting my family so soon after we just started going out."

The rest of their conversation was cut off as the doors closed. Towards the back of the room, in one of the small camera drone storage alcoves, a drone that should have been inactive rose up from the alcove. It flew its way up to the skylights in the high ceiling.

When it reached the skylights it hovered itself close to the edge to avoid detection if someone came into the room, and extended a small appendage from its tiny frame.

The appendaged tracked across the sky, looking for any passing craft that would contain a link to the planetary network. When it found such a craft, a small laser activated at the end of the appendage and sent a data burst to the it, containing the recording of the council meeting and the conversation afterward.

The data burst would find its way through the network the passing transport was linked to and then transmit itself along the inter-system channels and find its way into Amarr space, into the waiting hands of the Phell Clan's enemies.

Stronghold

112-06-02 Gulfondi, Republic-Fleet Logistic Support: State room aboard Hope Of Matar, Tiger Phoenix Phell's Maelstrom class battleship.

Sitting at his desk, Tiger was reading through a report on a data pad. His eyes slowly scanning across the text, he seemed to be absorbing all the details he could, even the ones that weren't there. Sitting across from him, Shana Melaar was leaning back in her chair, watching Tiger read the report. She seemed to be bored, but if you looked closely, you could see that her eyes were tracking every slight move of Tiger's, waiting for him to finish the report she had handed him a few short minutes ago.

Tiger's eyes stopped tracking across the report, and he looked up at Shana and placed the pad on the desk. Leaning forward and placing his elbows on the desk top and folding his hands in front of his face, he looked across the top of his knuckles at Shana.

The room was silent except for the slight thrum of the reactor at the heart of the ship, and the breathing of its two occupants.

"Shana, you are sure this report is accurate?" he asked into the silence of the room.

Shana scoffed, "Tiger, you know I wouldn't bring you a finalized report unless I knew with certainty that it was accurate as possible." She shifted her tall frame in the chair and reached into one of the inner pockets of her long coat and removed another data pad.

Activating the pad she held it up to read from it, "This is from one of the contacts that I have been able to develop who has close ties to Concord and the D.E.D.'Confirmed, Sansha seem to pulled back for the time being and there have been no further attacks on any population centers on the scale or the composition of the last months incursions."

Lowering the pad, she looked back up at Tiger, "So it looks like they've stopped whatever it was they were doing and gone back to there territory," she got a small frown on her face,"for the time being, that is."

Raising the pad back up, "This is compiled from multiple contacts across multiple factions, 'It is believed that the current situation is only temporary, and that the Sansha are currently reevaluating their responses to capsuleer interventions during incursions, and that they are also consolidating their forces for another push at population centers across the cluster," looking back at Tiger, "when they expect it to happen is unknown, but they all agree, they haven't stopped yet."

Tiger looked down at his folded hands in front of him and seemed to think about something for a moment. Sighing, he looked down at the data pad in front of him on the desk.

"According to the intel you gathered about the attacks, they release some kind of nanite tech into the atmosphere when the land their dropships," he looked up at Shana. "Coordinate with Clan security, and go ahead with the countermeasures you detailed in this report."

Standing from his chair behind the desk and picking up the data pad, he walked over to a large display screen. Activating it, he connected it to the data pad and brought up what looked like blueprints to a large facility.

"Lets keep our Clan and family safe Shana." he said to her without turning.

Remaining seated in the chair, Shana looked down at the pad in her hands and asked, "What do you want me to tell Shekear and A'dria, do we tell them everything about what I was able to learn, about what we plan to do to protect the Clan?"

Tiger turned and looked at Shana for a moment. Nodding his head, "Yes, tell them, because Shekear can help clear things over with the rest of the council, and also, they are our family, things of this magnitude should never be kept from family."

Getting up from the chair gracefully, Shana walked from the room, examining the pad and imputing commands into it.

Tiger turned away from the display screen and walked back to his desk, leaving the screen on. In the bottom right of the screen could be read the words, "Sansha countermeasure 3, Clan Safety Complex"

112-11-25 Nakugard VI- Phell Clan land

Standing on a small rise overlooking a large forested area, Tiger watched the wind move the tops of the trees, making the sea of green infront of him move in waves. He had been standing there for forty minutes, a few times he had seen one of the local animals that his clan kept on the lands for hunting go darting between the trees below him, looking for food, or a place to sleep for a little while.

As he stood there he heard someone walking up the slope towards him. He turned his head and looked down at Shana walking up to him. A few dozen meters behind her he could see the entrance to the large underground facility that he had ordered built to help protect his Clan and family from the Sansha, if they ever decided to some calling into his clans tiny little corner of the cluster.

"Shana, how goes the final preparations, are they almost complete?" he asked her as she reached the top of the rise and stood next to him.

"They're almost done, the techs are just waiting for your final go ahead to turn on the main generators and allow the facility to begin its start up procedures." she stared out across at the same view that Tiger had been enjoying.

Tiger nodded and switched his internal neo-comm to the channel of the techs working on the facility. "This is Tiger, you have a go on generator start-up, repeat, you have a go on generator start-up."

Looking over at Shana, Tiger gestured towards the entrance, "Shall we go witness the last five months of work come to fruition?"

Shana looked at Tiger, then back out to the forest with its abundant wildlife, "Yeah, lets get down there, we were gone along time saving my parents and the council, the techs might have screwed stuff up in our absence."

They both turned away from the forest and began walking down the slope towards the entrance of the facility.

New Years In The Republic

He stood starring out the window, watching the solar system continue its turn around the sun. Watching the world below him. Watching a world he wasn't born on, but his heart had lived with his entire life. Matar, homeworld of the Minmatar. He and his crews had been fighting for this planet and its surrounding territories for over the past year and half, first as part of the militia and now as part of a pro -Republic alliance that did what it could against slavers and pirates who attacked Minmatar holdings.

Tiger Phoenix Phell, leader of the Phell Clan and Pilot for Electus Matari, stared out the window of his state room aboard the Pearl, a Stabber Fleet Issue Minmatar cruiser, thinking about where he had come in the last five years. From slave, to special forces solider, to Pod Pilot and Clan leader, in five years, a lot had changed for him.

As he stood starring out the window thinking about past events, there was sudden movement within his field of vision, as a Typhoon class battleship dropped out warp and came to a stop in orbit above the planet. His implanted Neo-Comm gave him data on the ship and he smiled as it showed him that the vessel belonged to the alliance.

The Typhoon was soon joined by a multitude of other ships bearing the registration codes of Electus Matari, ranging in size from frigates to more battleships.

He received a message through his neo-comm, "Tiger, looks like the celebration is about to begin, where do you want me to put the ship?" This came from his cousin A'dria Phell, who was at this moment piloting the Fleet Stabber he was aboard. He would have piloted the ship himself, it was his ship, but the Republic Security Service had to fire on him because of his security status with the D.E.D. So he had asked A'dria to fly the Pearl to Matar while he road as a passenger.

"Put us in an orbit pattern around one the cruisers out there." He turned away from the window and walked over to the desk in the room and picked up a small data pad.

He pressed a control on the pad activating  the wireless link to his Neo-Comm. Bringing up his comm channel interface, he accepted an invite to the fleet channel that the alliance had set up for the celebration.Walking back up to the window to stare out at the fleet as they began firing torpedoes and other weapons to simulate a fireworks display.

"A'dria, link the local channel into the intercom, Ulf should be giving a speech."

After A'dria linked local into the intercom, Ulphus's voice was heard giving a speech to everyone one in system. As Ulf's speech came to a close a EM pilot called out "For the Republic" over the channel, which the rest of EM picked up. "For the Republic" being yelled by his crew throughout the ship, reverberating off the walls and becoming louder and louder.

As it died down Tiger toggled a control on the pad and severed the wireless link with his Neo-Com, leaveing the fleet comms channel in the process.

"A'dria, bring us into dock at the Station, we have a party to attend." Placing the data pad on his desk, he walked out the door and down the hall heading for the elevator that would take him down to the airlock.

-------------------------

The lift doors slide open, and Tiger and A'dria stepped off and began walking out into the hangar berthing the Pearl and a shuttle that he would take back to Gulf.

Turning to A'dria, Tiger embraced her in a hug, "Get back home in one piece cousin, and don't get the Pearl blown to bits."

Returning the embrace, A'dria laughed. "Don't worry cousin, I won't even scratch the paint," smiling she held Tiger at arms length, "and you be careful yourself, a shuttle is hardly able to stand-up to any kinda fire power. Happy New Year Tiger."

Stepping back, "Happy New Year A'dria." he turned and began walking toward the guest state room where his Pod was housed. Looking back to A'dria he waved as she walked up to a door that led into a similar room.

Once inside his Pod, docking control authorized him to interface with his ship and undock from the station. His small shuttle slid out of the station, and once clear he set a course for the stargate that would start him on his journey home to Gulf.

Lets hope this year we don't run into any problems, he thought to himself as his ship hurtled across space.
